The shop

Antypical is a shop at the front of some townhouses, with a stop for the 503 bus out the front. There is a ramp inside the front door, with the doorway giving a minimum width of 85cm. The ramp gets steeper at the top and we’re happy to help if you need it. There is a bathroom within the store which is technically not accessible but quite spacious. The hair cutting chair can be raised and lowered. If you will remain in your wheelchair for the haircut we can shift the barber chair out of the way. Just send a text message when you make your booking so we can be prepared for this.

Sensory

There is usually quiet music playing in the background, and there are no TV screens or flashing lights. There’s a split system air conditioner. Feel free to text up to a month ahead with any requests regarding volume, hairdryers, clippers, water spray, sensitive scalp, etc.

Private sessions

Antypical Hair & Gallery is proud to offer the option of a private session. To book a haircut which you can be sure will not be interrupted by anyone else coming in, use the booking app to secure a time, then send us an email or text. We’ll do our best to have the previous clients finished before you arrive and the shop will be closed to the public. The “chat” option in the booking system can be used for browsing the store or talking to Jasper the Hair Wizard while no haircuts are happening.

Anxiety

If you or your child have anxiety or have had a previous bad experience somewhere, we can take it slow. Secure a a time slot using the booking system and then feel free to text or email outlining what we might expect. Sometimes it’s helpful to remove the commitment of an actual haircut from the equation, and we can aim to sit in the seat or just brush the hair on the first visit.

Feel free to let us know if you feel we haven’t been able to provide an acceptable service to you. If you have any suggestions on how we can improve, we would like to learn. In situations where we are unable to adapt to your needs, we aim to offer a referral to a more ideal solution.
